C NEW CRITICS COMPETITION 2010

C Magazine is launching an annual competition designed to develop and promote the work of emerging art critics. All young and emerging writers are encouraged to apply.
Contributors can submit a review of an exhibition, performance, or site-specific intervention that has taken place after August 2009. Articles must be between 800 and 1200 words in length, and accompanied by a one-paragraph author biography. Submissions must be received before May 10, 2010.
The jury for the award includes Suzanne Carte-Blanchenot, assistant curator at the Art Gallery of York University, Jim Drobnick, associate professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Amish Morrell, editor of C Magazine, and Jenifer Papararo, curator at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver.
The winner of this competition will receive $400, editorial support in order to prepare their article for publication in the September 2010 issue of C Magazine, and a two-year subscription to C. One runner-up will receive $100 and a subscription to C .
New and emergent is defined not on the basis of age, but as those who have published no more than two reviews or one article in a specialized journal, popular periodical, or blog with public readership. Publications in school newspapers and student journals are excepted.
Only one submission is allowed per person and must be sent as an email attachment, in MS Word or as a pdf file, to amishmorrell@cmagazine.com. Mail or fax submissions will not be accepted.
