C Magazine is seeking a passionate and inventive design intern to assist with the design and production of two print issues and related digital assets. As a valuable member of C’s team, interns play an important role in promoting and nurturing critical engagement with and knowledge of contemporary art. Working with the Design Director, the design intern will gain worthwhile practical and conceptual experience in the fields of design and publishing. - Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate a passion for contemporary art and design and a strong interest in editorial and publication design. The position is geared towards a current or recent student who has undertaken some university studies in editorial design, brand design, or graphic design. A working ability in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is required. Candidates work closely with the Design Director to learn the process of the printed magazine and then will be expected to work independently, with the supervision of the Design Director. The Design Intern will have access to an office computer if they choose, but must also have their own computer to work with remotely.
Responsibilities
- Overview
The Design Intern will work with the Design Director to produce the printed magazine and related digital assets for upcoming issues C155 and C156.
- Producing Print Issues
Production of the printed issue requires;
- Overseeing of file delivery from the Editor
- Layout and design of features and spreads
- Creation of a page plan reference by the Editor and Printer
- Production of rounds for the Editor and Proof Reader
- Inputting of Editor’s corrections
- Placement of received ads
- Design of In-House ads and ARC ads
- Production of final print-ready files
- Digital and Promotional Materials
The Design Intern will produce the digital assets and posts required for announcing and releasing each issue, and work with Design Director to create templates for social media posts
