Robertson revisits her three-part collaboration with Stacy Doris – an ode to the forgotten senses of smell and sound that operate by vibrations and not their molecular, physical structures. In the vibrations are revealed life and death, complexity and contradiction, freedom and revolution. The examination of these vibrations is taken up and cultivated by “the perfume recordist.” By studying the scents and sounds imbued in perfumes from 18th-century France, the perfume recordist establishes a recognition of political, social, and economic changes not only in the past but also in the immediate present.
