Robin Simpson interviews Life of a Craphead, the conceptual duo consisting of Amy Lam and Jon McCurley, about their body of work and artistic methods. Their series of memorial works address vulnerable memories of personal and collective trauma, particularly echoes of Western imperialism in Asia that are still prevalent in the domain of Canadian art today.

This article is a reflection on Joan Jonas’ practice inspired by her major show “From Away” which saw five decades of the artists’ work on view at DHC/ART in Montreal. Accompanying this show was a program called “Affinities”, which combined dance, performance, movement, film screenings and dialogue, pivoted around the resonances of Jonas’ work with contemporary artists with whom Jonas collaborated. This article combines dialogue from those artists participating in “Affinity”, audience members and other “key interlocutors” reflect on Jonas’ practice in three distinct “moments” from “Affinities”.

The space between poetry and art has ceased to be so well defined. Increasingly, with collaborations, combined readings or exhibitions, performances, and even within art writing, poetry has found its own cachet in the art world. Through a series of personal encounters in Vancouver and Montreal, Simpson describes his own interpretation of (poetry’s place) the place of poetry within contemporary art conversation.
