The spring 2018 issue of C Magazine considers the theme of “Time” alongside institutions we rely on to mark, to record, and to tell it—the archive, the library and the memorial. Featuring Maandeeq Mohamed on Black queer art archives; Natasha Chaykowski on the new score for Robert Ashley’s In Memoriam by Postcommodity and Alex Waterman in collaboration with Will Holder, commissioned by the Ociciwan Contemporary Art Collective; Jesse McKee in conversation with Sepake Angiama, instigator of documenta 14’s Pollyanna Library; an interview with Derya Akay by Greta Hamilton; and an Artist Project by Rajni Perera.

On Wednesday, April 4 support C Magazine at our signature fundraising auction of Canadian and international contemporary art. The 14th Annual C Magazine Contemporary Art Auction will be held at Scrap Metal Gallery, with auctioneer services provided by Perry Tung, courtesy of Bonhams Canada and art framing by Superframe. Each ticket includes catering by Les Louises Fine Food, an open bar with wine selection by Midfield Winebar & Tavern and Grolsch beer and a subscription to C Magazine.

This year’s specially created C Auction Edition, Dreams Caught by Ursula Johnson, is a commercially produced dreamcatcher kit assembled according to manufacturer instructions. Attached is a length of hand dyed yarn from The Indian Truckhouse of High Art, with a printed tag that reads: “This object is 100% Authentic Indian High Art. Made in Mi’kmaki.” The C Auction Edition is generously supported by La Fondation Emmanuelle Gattuso.

The auction includes over 50 works by local and international artists, each carefully chosen by the selection committee and generously donated by artists whose work reflects our mandate to advance the important cultural ideas and practices of contemporary art.
