Sixteen writers each contribute to a collection of essays about an influential individual from the art world and culture at large.

Robin Metcalfe visits the Bienal de la Habana in Cuba and keeps a five day diary of the trip, giving insight into the hectic pace of a biennial work trip and discusses the highs and lows of what was seen. Among the standouts is a performance-installation by Cuban artist Tania Bruguera Fernández, which was later shut down by authorities.

Robin Metcalfe reviews the exhibition “Vanitas” at Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery in Halifax. The small exhibition includes three artists: Louis Joncas, Claude Perreault, and Phillip McCrum, whose works collectively explore visceral desire, appetite, pleasure, death, decay, and materiality.

Five black and white photographs by Aaron Anaïs Kimberly entitled “Autoportraits” are presented. Kimberly’s work questions what is natural and what is artificial in gender, particularly masculinity. In the tradition of butch lesbians and drag kings, the work draws attention to the intricacies and everyday performance of gender.
