C Magazine employs one editorial intern to assist with the production of one to two issues. As valuable members of C’s team, interns play an important role in promoting and nurturing critical engagement with and knowledge of contemporary art, while gaining worthwhile practical and conceptual experience in the field of publishing. We are committed to ensuring an enjoyable, educational, and rewarding experience.

Overview

A demonstrable passion for contemporary art is required. This position is geared towards someone who has undertaken some university studies in visual art, critical and curatorial studies, arts management, art history, or related field(s); someone who has editorial experience in arts and culture (including DIY mediums) and wishes to learn more about practical professional processes; and/or someone with comparable background outside of institutions. Candidates must possess excellent research skills, and advanced writing and communication skills. A working knowledge of Mac OS X, MS Word and Excel, Slack, and Google Apps is beneficial. Candidates must be able to work independently, with the supervision of the Editor, at a location of their choice, using their own computer.

Tasks

-Researches and obtains images and reproduction rights for print magazine; formats and edits captions according to the C Magazine Living Style Guide; participates in image selection process
-Administers contributor contracts
-Collects mailing addresses for complimentary copies
-Manages deadlines, communications, and follow-ups for all of the above
-Prepares PDFs of individual contributions and distributes them to the authors
-Prepares press reports (information about an artist’s or topic’s prior coverage) as necessary
-Assists in uploading online content to the website, which may include press releases, promotional and editorial texts, and images
-Helps coordinate public programming
-Assists with other administrative and research tasks as necessary
-Attends staff and/or editorial meetings as interested
-Other tasks relevant to intern’s specific career development
