This section features a letter by Allyson Mitchell in response to an open letter addressed to Mitchell written by Jess Carroll previously published in Carbon Paper. Mitchell responds to Carroll’s criticism of her art installation project Killjoy’s Kastle: A Lesbian Feminist Haunted House that ran from October 16 to October 30, 2013. Mitchell responds that the intention of the project was not to be friendly but to be critically engaged with the complexities of feminism and queerness. To Carroll’s charge that the installation was “not listening or teaching,” Mitchell responds that a processing room for listening, talking, and thinking was built into the work, in addition to which Mitchell contributed hours to responding to comments on Facebook.
