This article features a conversation with Jodi Dean, Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The conversation touches upon the medium of the blog as a cipher for the articulation of “communicative capitalism,” communication as commodity, Dean’s notion of “glitches” in orality and how it falls short of inviting interpretation, and the internet as a tool but not an end in itself with respect to resisting exploitation and inequality.

An interview with artist and writer Hito Steyerl is presented. When asked about the concept of “the middle” in her work, Steyerl discusses her film The Empty Centre, the meaning of the concept of “the middle” as a place of consensus and common sense, and the difference between “the middle” and “medium.” She goes on to discuss the state of being implicated and uses Jackie Chan as an example of someone who handles implication appropriately.
