Issue 145
Critic and artist David Garneau notes how despite the explosion of writing about Indigenous art in the past handful of years, very little of it is critical. For non-Indigenous folks to engage this work, Garneau calls for non-colonial forms of critical art writing.
Issue 128
Stewart, Benesiinaabandan, Garneau and Busby utilize text and imagery in response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report and its reception. Highlighting the report’s past tense descriptions of Indigenous assimilation and dispossession, as well as reactions to the Report in the media, these artists consider the benefits of the state-designated Reconciliation for the settlers’ conscience, and the lack of productive response to contemporary Aboriginal concerns.
